December 2006 - November 2009
3-Year Building Fund Campaign

For the past five years we have been praying, fasting, giving, designing, visioning, and planning. Indeed there is a time for everything and the time for those things is certainly not done. But now, thanks be to God, it is a time to build!  We have been praying our mission prayer and God has answered. Right now there are bulldozers on the property, making room for those many new people who will come to know and serve Christ in this community. Take a minute to read through this brochure as we introduce this campaign to you. As you will see, God is doing amazing things through us and the Time to Build has come!

In Christ,
Rev. Dr. Peter Moon, Senior Pastor

"A Time To Build" Capital Campaign Exceeds $1 Million!

Thanks to the faithfulness and generosity of this church, we have received over $700,000 in congregational giving towards the “A Time To Build” capital campaign in our first year.  The three-year campaign began in December, 2006 to fund the discipleship facility at Hampton Park and received roughly $2.1 million dollars in pledges.  In our first year we have received over 1/3 of that amount, keeping us right on track for a successful outcome.  In addition, the campaign started off with a $300,000 gift from the Virginia District of the United Methodist Church, which brings our total to over ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Thanks again to all the faithful supporters of the “A Time To Build” capital campaign, and let’s all look forward to an even more successful year in 2008 as we reach out to spread God’s word to the community and beyond.  Anyone interested in making a pledge to the campaign may pick up a “Take The Next Step” brochure available in the Welcome Center, complete the appropriate section of the pledge card, and place it in the collection plate, or drop it off or mail it to the church office.  Pledges may also be submitted on-line.

2006 WUMC Town Hall

The Horizon Team held a Town Hall meeting for the purpose of presenting options available to us as we move forward on the construction at the Hampton Park site.  With the results of the "A Time to Build" campaign, the feedback from the Town Hall meeting, and a meeting with the Adult Sunday School classes earlier in November, the Horizon Team also made a recommendation for the revised scope of the first phase of the building project and the financing plan.  The result of the Town Hall meeting was to build a Discipleship building and preschool instead of a temporary worship space due to the inflation of building costs.
