What is Church Council?

Feel free to view this year's ministry reports and minutes at the bottom of this page.

Church Council meets on the fourth Thursday every month at 7:30 PM in Room 130.  It is attended by Lay Leaders and Council members who are representatives of each ministry area of the church.  These are open meetings where all are invited to attend even if you are not on the council.

The Monthly Ministry Report is prepared by the lay leader working with each staff person.  Each month they update the Church Council on what has been, is and will be happening in their ministry area.  We have found it quite helpful since we are growing and it is a way to get information out to all.

The Church Council Minutes are recorded each month and are approved at the next meeting.  All critical items that the leadership needs to vote on are included so this becomes an official church document that details decisions and discussions made by the church leadership.

2007 Church Conference Vote

All were invited to attend the Church Conference on September 23rd to vote on the recent Church Council proposal to use Cosby High School for worship during the 9:30 and 11:00 am services starting in the spring of 2008 when the new Discipleship building opens.  The vote was passed to use Cosby High School.  Of the 167 votes cast, 129 voted in agreement, 37 voted in disagreement, and 1 abstained.  We look forward to seeing how God will use this space to reach even more people.

2007 Charge Conference Proposal

During the Charge Conference on Sunday, April 15th, Church Council voted for the completion of a field and picnic shelter at the Hampton Park site and of the formation of a church controlled non-profit corporation to house community ministries such as the future Woodlake United Methodist Preschool.

2006 WUMC Town Hall

The Horizon Team held a Town Hall meeting for the purpose of presenting options available to us as we move forward on the construction at the Hampton Park site.
With the results of the "A Time to Build" campaign, the feedback from the Town Hall meeting, and a meeting with the Adult Sunday School classes earlier in November, the Horizon Team also made a recommendation for the revised scope of the first phase of the building project and the financing plan.  The result of the Town Hall meeting was to build a Discipleship building and preschool instead of a temporary worship space due to the inflation of building costs.
