BeFriender Ministry

For those who might not be familiar with  WUMC’s  BeFriender Ministry, this is a ministry of caring, loving individuals who are ready to “walk” with you and help you through any
situation you might be trying to handle, no matter how small or large.  We want you to not be afraid to ask for help.  Everyone needs someone to talk with, other than family or friends. A “BeFriender” is someone who is never critical or judgmental but supportive and understanding.

The BeFriender Ministry is part of our Pastoral Care Ministry here at WUMC. All “BeFrienders” have spent many hours being educated and trained in a Pastoral Care Seminary course and of course, confidentiality is strictly followed.  They also attend continuing education meetings monthly.

We have recently commissioned, this past July, eleven more men and women into this ministry who are ready to serve you and our God.  Because the BeFriender Pastoral Care course takes three to four months to complete, this training is only offered once every year.   With these eleven newly commissioned members, WUMC BeFriender Ministry will have thirty lay-ministers ready and willing to serve.

 

If you, a relative, friend or simply someone you know, is having a difficult time coping with all the stresses we all feel today, “BeFrienders” are there to help.  You may contact Jean Rowe, BeFriender Ministry Coordinator, 241-6521, and Pauline Elliott, Director of Congregational Care, 739-4535, using the online form below.  Or, if you are more comfortable writing a note asking for a BeFriender, please do so.  Mail this to the church, drop it off at our church office or place in the offering plate making sure you write “Attention: The BeFriender Ministry”. Remember, everything is always kept confidential.
