Global Missions

And the King will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." - Matthew 25:40

WUMC is passionate in reaching out to help others!  We offer a variety of mission opportunities that take place in Mexico, Cuba and Africa.  For more information on any of the following mission opportunities, please contact Pastor Michael Whaley, Associate Pastor of Missions.

Come Join the Mission Team!

The mission team meets once a month to discuss current mission opportunities and provides the team with a chance to sign up for participation.  The meeting takes place on the third Tuesday each month at 8:00 pm in Room 102 following the First Fruits service.  All are welcome to attend at any time!

Making Donations

We strive to make it very easy for you to make donations for any mission opportunity.  In the Narthex (front hallway) of our church, you'll find red bins located under the stairway.  Each bin is labeled with a mission name.  Items are picked up from the bins on a weekly basis.  Feel free to drop off your donations to the appropriately marked bins at any time.

Soldier Care Packages

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Soldier Care Package event on Saturday, December 15th!  There were well over 150 folks in attendance who helped assemble over 1000 packages filled with all sorts of goodies for our soldiers overseas.  Many of these soldiers never receive even a card from friends and family while they are away, so this will be a very meaningful, and much appreciated, gift to all!

Sponsor a Child at the Child Rescue Centre - Africa

Click here for a CRC Update - The Torch Newsletter!

WUMC recently joined a partnership with several of our sister churches in Northern Virginia to support the Child Rescue Centre in Sierre Leone, Africa . The Child Rescue Center provides food, clothing, shelter, education, health care and a loving, nurturing environment to 46 (soon to be 70) children in Bo, Sierra Leone. The C.R.C. also supports 100 additional children living in family settings by paying their school tuition, providing school uniforms, purchasing school supplies and providing health care.  In addition to financial donations, volunteers can participate as pen pals with C.R.C. students and staff, participate in the sponsor-a-child program, and have the opportunity to join one of the periodic groups who travel to Sierra Leone to provide various types of direct support.  For more information about the Child Rescue Centre visit http://www.childrescuecentre.org/.

Through this new partnership, you have the opportunity to sponsor a child that currently lives at the CRC. A donation of $300 can help provide food, clothing, education and a safe place to live for a child.  When sponsoring a child, you will receive a picture of the child you are helping and have the opportunity to communicate through written letters. This is an excellent way to start a new year or honor a loved one by sponsoring a child in their name. For more information, contact Pastor Michael Whaley.

To sponsor a child, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page!

NOTE FROM MISSION POSSIBLE 2007 CHAIRMAN

The first container has just arrived at the port in Freetown, Sierra Leone and the fourth and final container for Mission Possible 2007 is finally on its way to Bo, Sierra Leone. The fourth container was needed as over 16,000 items were collected including a mini-van. This number does not even include the thousands of additional items for the new hospital. These containers of supplies for the new hospital, the Child Rescue Centre, and new mission house, will go a long way in blessing the lives of the people of Sierra Leone. We just want to say thank you and how awestruck we are by the number, commitment, and expertise of the volunteers and all involved from all the partner and friends of the CRC churches, by the volume and quality of items collected, as well as by the financial donations to purchase items that were not donated.  God and the body of Christ have definitely been at work during this enormous undertaking.

God Bless You,
Craig Heier, Mission Possible 2007 Chairman
